ABOUT ME

Kirk is a graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of San Carlos. He considers himself as a novelty seeker who has a strong profile of versatility, management skills, and adeptness in multitasking. Growing up, he had to do a lot of trial-and-errors in his life trying to figure out what he wanted to be. During his high school years, he interned at a rural health unit in his hometown, aspiring to become a doctor.  He also jestingly wanted to be renowned as the "king of pastry." Although these plans did not materialize, his passion for science, math, and research ultimately guided him toward his degree.

His enthusiasm for laboratory works, data gathering and interpretation grew fonder as his university life progressed. He had the privilege of working under the guidance of Dr. Ramelito Agapay on his undergraduate thesis, focusing on developing a novel catalyst for biodiesel production. This hands-on experience not only honed his technical skills, but also taught him the importance of teamwork and effective communication in a multidisciplinary environment. Additionally, he had the opportunity to be an engineering intern at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Environmental Management Bureau Region 7, where he conducted field visits and site inspections to verify compliance with environmental regulations. He also performed laboratory analyses on industrial and ambient water samples, including tests for dissolved oxygen, 5-day biochemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids, pH, temperature, color, phosphates, ammonia, chlorides, sulfates, nitrates, fecal coliform, oil and grease, and mercury levels.

 

Outside his academic pursuits, he is actively involved in the University of San Carlos - Chemical Engineering Club (USC - ChEC) where he has volunteered to support marginalized communities through technology transfer initiatives and environmental awareness campaigns like tree planting and cleanup drives. On that same organization, he also became a part of the creatives and advertising team, and eventually became the president of the club.

 

Looking forward, he is eager to apply his knowledge and skills in renewable energy and wastewater management to foster innovation and sustainability.
